Maximum Motorsports IRS Rear Grip Package - Race (MMRG-22) - 1999-2004 Ford Mustang Cobra
Take your Mustang Cobra's independent rear suspension performance to the next level with the Maximum Motorsports IRS Rear Grip Package - Race. Building on the Super Street/Competition Grip Package, this race-oriented suspension upgrade adds solid aluminum differential mounting bushings with pinion angle adjustability for improved handling, traction, and wheel hop control.
Designed for 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra IRS applications, this package replaces key factory rubber bushings with precision suspension components that reduce unwanted movement and maintain more consistent rear wheel alignment under demanding driving conditions.
Race-Oriented Differential Mounting
The primary difference between the MMRG-22 Race Package and the MMRG-21.5 Super Street/Competition Package is the differential mounting system.
Instead of urethane differential bushings, the Race Package includes Maximum Motorsports MMIRSB-40.2 aluminum differential bushings. These provide a solid differential mounting arrangement while allowing pinion angle adjustment.
This upgrade adds differential positioning adjustability to the suspension improvements already included in the Super Street/Competition package.
Improved IRS Handling and Wheel Hop Reduction
Factory rubber control arm bushings allow deflection during acceleration, braking, and cornering. This movement can cause unpredictable camber changes and prevent the rear suspension from maintaining consistent wheel alignment.
The Maximum Motorsports Delrin upper and lower control arm bushings eliminate this deflection, precisely locating the rear control arms for improved dynamic alignment and more predictable handling.
Wheel hop is a common issue with IRS-equipped Mustangs. The soft factory rubber bushings compress and rebound under load, contributing to repeated cycles of traction loss and recovery. As the rear tires alternate between gripping and slipping, this undamped suspension movement creates wheel hop.
Replacing the compliant rubber control arm bushings with Delrin components greatly reduces this unwanted movement, helping the IRS maintain traction and operate more consistently.

IRS Subframe Bushing and Hardware Selection
Maximum Motorsports requires the Mustang's chassis year when ordering to provide the correct IRS subframe urethane bushings and forward mounting hardware.
- 1999-2004 Mustang Chassis: Uses 14mm bolts at the forward IRS subframe mounts. Requires MMIRSU-1 urethane subframe bushings and MMF-4 mounting hardware.
- 1979-1998 Mustang Chassis: Uses 12mm bolts at the forward IRS subframe mounts. Requires MMIRSU-2 urethane subframe bushings and MMF-5 mounting hardware.
Correct hardware selection is especially important for earlier Mustang chassis equipped with an IRS conversion.
Fitment
- 1999 Ford Mustang Cobra with IRS
- 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R with IRS
- 2001 Ford Mustang Cobra with IRS
- 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra with IRS
- 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra with IRS
Important Fitment Note: Designed for Mustang independent rear suspension applications. Specify the vehicle chassis year when ordering to ensure the correct subframe bushings and mounting hardware are supplied. Earlier 1979-1998 Mustang chassis equipped with an IRS conversion require the corresponding 12mm hardware configuration.
