Maximum Motorsports Rear Grip Package - Super Street / Competition (MMRG-21.5) - 1999-2004 Ford Mustang Cobra
Take your Mustang Cobra's independent rear suspension performance beyond the Street Grip Package with the Maximum Motorsports Rear Grip Package - Super Street / Competition. Designed for 1999-2004 Mustang Cobra IRS applications, this package improves handling, reduces wheel hop, and provides additional suspension upgrades suited for competition use.
Building on the MMRG-21 Street package, the Super Street / Competition version adds a complete adjustable IRS tie-rod kit, low-profile rear subframe mounting bolts, and new forward subframe mounting hardware. These upgrades improve suspension adjustability and provide additional clearance for wider tires.
Improved IRS Handling and Wheel Hop Reduction
The factory IRS uses compliant rubber control arm bushings that allow suspension deflection under acceleration, braking, and cornering. This movement can cause unpredictable rear camber changes and contribute to wheel hop.
Wheel hop occurs when the rear tires repeatedly lose and regain traction. The soft factory rubber bushings compress and rebound under load, amplifying this oscillation. Replacing these bushings with Delrin components eliminates the bushing deflection responsible for much of this unwanted movement.
The Maximum Motorsports Delrin upper and lower control arm bushings precisely locate the rear control arms and help maintain consistent rear wheel alignment. This improves handling and traction while leaving noise, vibration, harshness (NVH), and ride comfort virtually unchanged.
Super Street / Competition Upgrades
Compared to the MMRG-21 Street Grip Package, the MMRG-21.5 includes several additional components intended for more demanding performance applications:
- Complete Adjustable IRS Tie-Rod Kit: Replaces the Street package's adjustable outer tie-rod end bumpsteer kit with the complete MMIRSTR-2 adjustable tie-rod assembly.
- Low-Profile Rear Subframe Bolts: Includes MMF-1 mounting bolts to improve clearance for wider rear tires.
- New Forward Subframe Hardware: Includes the appropriate mounting hardware for the vehicle chassis, with 14mm bolts for 1999-2004 Mustangs or 12mm bolts for 1979-1998 Mustang chassis.

IRS Subframe Bushing and Hardware Selection
Maximum Motorsports requires the Mustang's chassis year when ordering to supply the correct IRS subframe bushings and mounting hardware.
- 1999-2004 Mustang Chassis: Uses 14mm forward IRS subframe mounting bolts. Includes MMIRSU-1 urethane subframe bushings and MMF-4 mounting hardware.
- 1979-1998 Mustang Chassis: Uses 12mm forward IRS subframe mounting bolts. Includes MMIRSU-2 urethane subframe bushings and MMF-5 mounting hardware.
This distinction is especially important for earlier Mustang chassis that have been converted to an independent rear suspension.
