VMP Gen3R 2.65L TVS Head Unit Upgrade (VMP-SH714GTG3R) - 2007-2014 Shelby GT500 5.4L / 5.8L

Take your 2007-2014 Shelby GT500 to the next level with the VMP Gen3R 2.65L TVS Head Unit Upgrade. Designed as the evolution of VMP's supercharger lineup, the Gen3R combines Eaton 2.65L TVS rotor technology with an all-new casting, improved inlet port geometry, and a smoother airflow path to support everything from powerful stock-engine combinations to 1,000+ rear-wheel-horsepower built-engine setups.

The Gen3R is capable of operating from approximately 12 psi to more than 25 psi depending on pulley selection and the overall combination. Despite its substantial airflow and power capability, the Gen3R is designed to fit underneath the factory GT500 hood.

Important: Supercharger pulley is not included with this head unit upgrade. The Gen3R has also been updated to use ORB fittings.

Evolution of the VMP 2.65L TVS Supercharger

The Gen3R builds upon the original VMP Gen3 2.65L TVS with significant changes to the supercharger casting and inlet design. An all-new casting incorporates improved inlet port geometry and provides a smoother airflow path into the rotors, helping the 2.65L TVS rotor pack operate efficiently at the airflow and boost levels required by high-output GT500 combinations.

VMP also designed the Gen3R around the factory GT500 throttle body bolt pattern. This configuration provides an improved short-turn radius into the supercharger while retaining compatibility with the GT500-style throttle body mounting arrangement.

Eaton 2.65L TVS Rotor Technology

At the heart of the Gen3R is Eaton's 2.65L TVS rotor technology. Compared with the factory 2.3L TVS found on the 2013-2014 GT500, the newer 2.65L rotor pack uses a higher-twist design that provides increased efficiency and substantial airflow capability.

That additional efficiency allows the Gen3R to support significant horsepower without requiring an extreme pulley combination on a stock engine, while still providing the airflow potential needed for much more aggressive built-engine combinations.

5.4L GT500 Power Potential

On 2007-2012 Shelby GT500 models equipped with the 5.4L engine, VMP states that the Gen3R can produce approximately 680-800 rear-wheel horsepower, or approximately 750-900 crank horsepower, on a stock engine using 2.8" to 2.5" upper pulley sizes.

An overdrive lower pulley is not required to reach these power levels, allowing owners to build a potent stock-engine combination using the appropriate upper pulley, supporting modifications, fuel, and calibration.

5.8L GT500 Power Potential

The 2013-2014 Shelby GT500's 5.8L engine was factory equipped with a 2.3L TVS supercharger. Moving to the VMP Gen3R 2.65L TVS provides a substantial increase in supercharger capability through the larger, higher-twist rotor pack and improved inlet design.

VMP states that stock-engine 5.8L combinations can produce approximately 750-800+ rear-wheel horsepower using a 2.6" to 2.5" upper pulley with the appropriate supporting modifications, fuel, and calibration.

Stock Engine Recommendations

VMP recommends approximately 800 rear-wheel horsepower as the safe limit for a stock engine. The Gen3R itself is capable of reaching that level with the proper supporting modifications and appropriate fuel.

For stock engines operating on 93 octane, VMP recommends a 2.7" upper pulley. For stock engines operating on 91 octane, VMP recommends a 2.8" upper pulley.

The manufacturer also references E85 or 93 octane with Boostane for combinations targeting the upper end of the stock-engine power range. Proper fueling, supporting modifications, and calibration must be selected for the specific boost level and combination.

1,000+ RWHP Built-Engine Capability

The Gen3R's capability extends well beyond stock-engine power levels. Built engines equipped with forged pistons and connecting rods, aftermarket camshafts, and ported cylinder heads can produce 1,000+ rear-wheel horsepower depending on compression ratio, fuel, boost level, and the complete engine combination.

For these higher-output applications, VMP recommends a 10% or 15% ATI overdrive lower pulley, which is available separately.

12 PSI to 25+ PSI Capability

Available pulley combinations allow the VMP Gen3R to operate across a broad boost range, from approximately 12 psi to more than 25 psi. This gives the head unit the flexibility to support relatively conservative stock-engine combinations as well as high-boost built-engine applications.

VMP 10-rib bolt-on pulleys are designed for use with this supercharger on 2007-2014 Shelby GT500 applications. The supercharger pulley itself is not included with the VMP-SH714GTG3R and must be selected separately based on the intended combination.

Stock Hood Compatibility

Despite the increased airflow and power potential of the Gen3R, VMP designed the supercharger to fit underneath the stock 2007-2014 Shelby GT500 hood. This allows owners to substantially increase supercharger capability while retaining the factory exterior profile of the vehicle.

Updated ORB Fittings

The current VMP Gen3R head unit has been updated to use ORB fittings. This should be considered when planning the installation or upgrading an existing supercharger configuration.

Head Unit Upgrade Hardware Included

The VMP Gen3R Head Unit Upgrade includes the necessary parts and hardware required to upgrade the supercharger head unit. Gen3 and Gen3R installations require a minor modification to the cooling tower using the supplied milling tool.

This modification is part of the installation process and should be accounted for before beginning the upgrade.

Throttle Body and Monoblade Compatibility

The Gen3R uses the factory GT500 throttle body bolt pattern and was designed with an improved short-turn radius into the supercharger. VMP has also developed a line of monoblade throttle bodies around the goals of increased power capability, drivability, and tuneability for high-performance applications.

SS Ported Gen3R Option for Extreme Combinations

For combinations operating beyond the requirements of the standard Gen3R, VMP offers an SS ported head unit separately under part number VMP-SH714GTG3RSS.

VMP recommends the SS ported version only for built-engine combinations operating at 22+ psi, revving to approximately 7,500 rpm, and using a 10% or 15% overdrive lower balancer pulley. For combinations below those requirements, the standard Gen3R is the appropriate head unit configuration.
