UMI developed the 103460 anti-hop kit to address wheel hop and traction problems commonly encountered when launching the S197 Mustang. By changing the rear lower control arm mounting position and adding stronger boxed control arms, the kit helps the rear suspension transfer power more effectively during acceleration.
The improved suspension geometry is designed to increase forward traction during launches while reducing unwanted wheel hop during both launches and burnouts.
Improves Rear Suspension Instant Center
A key function of the UMI anti-hop kit is repositioning the rear mounting point of the lower control arm. Lowering this mounting location changes the control arm angle and alters the suspension's instant center, helping improve the way the chassis reacts when torque is applied.
This geometry change is especially useful on lowered vehicles where the factory lower control arm angle may no longer be ideal for traction. The multiple adjustment positions allow the suspension geometry to be corrected and tuned for improved performance.
Three Lower Control Arm Mounting Positions
The relocation brackets provide multiple adjustment holes with options for a 2-inch, 2-3/4-inch, or 3-1/4-inch drop. These settings allow the lower control arm mounting position to be selected according to vehicle ride height, suspension configuration, and traction requirements.

UMI constructs the relocation brackets from a combination of 3/16-inch and 1/4-inch mild steel plate. The brackets are CAD designed and CNC laser cut for accurate construction and are built to provide the strength and durability required for high-horsepower applications.
The substantial steel construction provides a rigid foundation for relocating the rear lower control arm mounting points while handling the forces generated during aggressive launches.
Boxed Rear Lower Control Arms
The 103460-R kit includes heavy-duty boxed rear lower control arms constructed from 1-inch x 2-inch steel tubing. The boxed design provides a strong replacement for the factory lower control arms and complements the upgraded suspension geometry created by the relocation brackets.
Combining the control arms and relocation brackets into one package allows both control arm strength and mounting geometry to be addressed at the same time.
Greaseable Polyurethane Bushings
The included boxed control arms feature greaseable polyurethane bushings. These upgraded bushings provide a durable connection between the control arms and chassis while allowing routine lubrication for continued performance.
Track Tested Performance
During UMI's testing on multiple Mustang models, the S197 platform demonstrated wheel hop during launches and burnouts. Adding the anti-hop kit immediately improved traction and helped produce better 60-foot performance.
UMI reports an average track-tested reduction of 0.10 second in 60-foot times. Actual results can vary depending on vehicle power level, suspension setup, tires, track conditions, and other modifications.
Simple Bolt-On Installation
Despite the significant change in rear suspension geometry, the UMI 103460-R is designed as a straightforward bolt-on upgrade. No welding, drilling, or cutting is required for installation.
UMI estimates installation time at approximately 1-2 hours. New grade 10.9 hardware is included, providing the necessary mounting hardware for installation.
