Heavy Duty 3.5" 6061-T6 Aluminum Construction
The DSS 610176 is manufactured from 3.5" diameter 6061-T6 aluminum tubing with a substantial .125" wall thickness. This heavy-duty construction provides an upgraded foundation for high-powered C6 Corvette applications where the factory torque tube driveshaft can become a limiting component.
DSS specifically developed the larger aluminum shaft to resist the flexing and distortion that can occur with the smaller factory driveshaft during hard acceleration.
Eliminates the Factory Rubber Couplers
One of the most important features of the DSS 610176 is the elimination of the factory rubber couplers. Instead of retaining these rubber drive components, DSS uses its own custom-machined ends as part of the upgraded driveshaft assembly.
In high-horsepower applications, distortion or failure of the factory rubber couplers can become a concern. Eliminating them removes these components from the torque transfer path and provides a more performance-focused solution for modified Corvette applications.
Designed to Prevent Driveshaft Distortion
According to DSS, the factory Corvette torque tube driveshaft uses a smaller-diameter tube and was produced in two different factory versions. Under hard acceleration, the factory shaft can flex and actually bend, placing additional stress on the rubber drive couplers.
Repeated shaft movement can cause the factory rubber couplers to wear prematurely. The larger 3.5" x .125" wall aluminum construction of the DSS driveshaft is designed to prevent the distortion and breakage associated with the factory configuration.
Custom-Machined DSS Ends
DSS equips the 610176 with custom-machined ends specifically designed around its heavy-duty torque tube driveshaft configuration. These components allow the upgraded shaft to eliminate the factory rubber couplers while creating a complete high-performance assembly.
The custom-machined end design works together with the larger 6061-T6 aluminum tube to provide a stronger solution for transferring increased power through the Corvette torque tube.
