Designed for 1979-1993 Ford Mustang and 1979-1986 Mercury Capri applications, this complete package combines Detroit Speed Subframe Connectors with the Detroit Speed EXO Brace to reinforce the chassis from front to rear. Instead of piecing together separate solutions for common Fox Body trouble spots, the 010116DS strengthens the frame rails, lower link pockets, rear torque boxes, upper link mounting areas, and seat mounts as one integrated system.
The included subframe connector system is designed to maximize torsional stiffness by connecting the front and rear frame rail structures. It reinforces the lower link pockets and rear torque boxes to help address common cracking while also strengthening the front seat mounting structure without interfering with the stock seat mounting arrangement. Detroit Speed fabricates the connectors from 2 inches x 2 inches x 0.083 inch steel tubing and 0.090 inch plate for substantial reinforcement with minimal added weight. The connectors do not extend below the rocker pinch flange, so the added chassis strength does not sacrifice ground clearance.
The included Detroit Speed EXO Brace targets another notorious Fox Body problem area: the upper torque boxes where the rear suspension upper links attach to the chassis. These factory structures can weaken and tear as loads increase. The EXO Brace ties the upper link pockets into the frame and floor pan on both sides of the frame rail and connects the two torque box structures side to side through a telescoping brace, increasing rigidity and helping prevent chassis damage.
Detroit Speed gives builders flexibility in how the EXO Brace portion is installed. The system can be used as a bolt-on reinforcement solution for cars making up to 400 horsepower, while Detroit Speed specifies welding the kit into the chassis for applications producing more than 400 horsepower.
