TRZ Motorsports GM Manual Rack and Pinion Conversion Kit - Factory Spindles (1971 - 1976 Chevy Impala / Caprice - B-Body) - 321-3

Manual Rack & Pinion Conversion for Factory Spindles (71 - 76 Impala & Caprice)

The TRZ Motorsports GM Manual Rack and Pinion Conversion Kit is engineered to upgrade steering performance on 1971 - 1976 Chevy Impala and Caprice B-Body models using factory or factory-style aftermarket spindles. By replacing the massive OEM steering assembly with a custom-narrowed Pinto-style manual rack, this kit delivers sharper steering response, reduced weight, and improved front-end stability - ideal for drag racing, Pro Street, or performance cruising builds.

This system is not bolt-in. Cutting, welding, and fabrication are required. TRZ strongly recommends installation by a qualified chassis shop to ensure proper rack placement, correct steering geometry, and long-term reliability.

Included in the kit are an adjustable bump-steer and tie-rod adjuster system, a rack clamp and mount plate, a 3/4" chrome-moly steering shaft with shaft brace, and three chrome-moly U-joints (one 9/16" - 26 spline to 3/4" joint plus two 3/4" × 3/4" smooth joints). Billet aluminum steering arms are included where applicable for supported GM platforms.

Spindle Notes

Select the correct spindle type before ordering:

  • Factory / Non-TRZ Drop Spindles: This includes Belltech, Summit, and most aftermarket drop spindles that maintain OE-style geometry.
  • TRZ Drop Spindles: Require a different-length tie-rod adjuster for correct toe alignment and optimal bump-steer correction. This kit (321-3) is designed specifically for factory-style spindles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a bolt-in rack conversion?

No. It requires cutting, welding, and fabrication. TRZ recommends having this installed by a professional chassis shop.

Will this kit work with TRZ drop spindles?

No. TRZ drop spindles require a different tie-rod adjuster length and use a separate TRZ-specific version of the kit. This version is for factory-style spindles only.
