TRZ Motorsports GM Manual Rack and Pinion Conversion Kit - TRZ Drop - 1.5" or 2" (1968 - 1972 Chevelle - A-Body) - 317-3T-2
Manual Rack & Pinion Conversion for TRZ Drop Spindles (1968 - 1972 Chevelle)
The TRZ Motorsports GM Manual Rack and Pinion Conversion Kit for TRZ 1.5" or 2" drop spindles is engineered specifically for 1968 - 1972 Chevelle A-Body owners looking for a stronger, more precise steering solution. This setup replaces the bulky factory linkage with a properly narrowed Pinto-style manual rack built for performance, weight reduction, and improved steering feel - ideal for drag racing and Pro Touring builds.
These kits are not bolt-in installations. Cutting, welding, and fabrication are required to position the rack correctly and maintain proper steering geometry. TRZ recommends installation by a qualified chassis shop.
Included in the kit are an adjustable bump-steer and tie-rod adjuster kit, a rack clamp and mounting plate, a 3/4" chrome-moly steering shaft with shaft brace, and three chrome-moly U-joints (one 9/16" - 26 spline to 3/4" joint plus two 3/4" x 3/4" smooth joints). Billet aluminum steering arms are included where applicable for 1967 - 69 Camaro/Firebird, 1968 - 74 Nova, and 1964 - 72 A-body platforms.
Spindle Notes
Select the correct spindle option when ordering:
- Factory / Non-TRZ Drop Spindles: Includes brands like Summit, Belltech, and other non-TRZ aftermarket units. These require the factory-spindle version of this kit.
- TRZ Drop Spindles (1.5" or 2"): Require a different tie-rod adjuster length to optimize toe settings and maximize bump-steer correction. This kit (317-3T-2) is the correct version.
