TRZ Motorsports GM Manual Rack and Pinion Conversion Kit - Factory Spindles (1968 - 1972 Chevelle - A-Body) - 317-3-2

Manual Rack & Pinion Conversion for 1968 - 1972 Chevelle (Factory Spindles)

The TRZ Motorsports GM Manual Rack and Pinion Conversion Kit provides a major steering upgrade for 1968 - 1972 Chevelle A-Body models running factory or factory-style aftermarket spindles. This system replaces the bulky OEM steering linkage with a narrower Pinto-style manual rack that gives your Chevelle sharper steering response, reduced weight, and improved front-end control - ideal for drag racing or performance street builds.

These kits are not bolt-in. Installation requires cutting, welding, and fabrication work, and TRZ strongly recommends having the system installed by a professional chassis shop for proper geometry and safety.

The kit includes an adjustable bump-steer and tie-rod adjuster kit, rack clamp and mount plate, a 3/4" chrome-moly steering shaft with shaft brace, and three chrome-moly U-joints (one 9/16" - 26 spline to 3/4" plus two 3/4" x 3/4" smooth joints). When applicable, billet aluminum steering arms are included for 1967 - 69 Camaro/Firebird, 1968 - 74 Nova, and 1964 - 72 A-body applications.

Spindle Notes

Select your spindle type carefully when ordering:

  • Factory Spindles / Non-TRZ Drop Spindles: Includes Belltech, Summit, and all aftermarket spindles that retain factory geometry.
  • TRZ Drop Spindles: These use a different-length tie-rod adjuster to optimize toe and bump-steer tuning. This kit (317-3-2) is for factory-style spindles only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to modify the chassis for installation?

Yes. This is not a bolt-in kit - cutting, welding, and fabrication are required. A chassis shop installation is recommended for proper alignment and safety.

Does this kit work with TRZ drop spindles?

No. TRZ drop spindles require a specific tie-rod adjuster length and use the TRZ spindle - specific kit instead. This version is for factory-style spindles only.
