The GPI L83HL3 is the most aggressive camshaft in the L83/L84 High Lift series - engineered for hardcore truck enthusiasts who want maximum horsepower, stronger midrange punch, and exceptional upper-RPM performance. Designed specifically for the 2014+ 5.3L Direct Injected GM truck platform, this cam delivers the strongest torque and horsepower gains of the STG1 - STG3 lineup.
With improved airflow, sharper throttle response, and a powerful pull all the way to 6600 RPM, the L83HL3 is ideal for highly spirited street/strip trucks and performance-minded builds that plan to use a higher stall converter and upgraded supporting mods.
High Lift Valvetrain Requirements
As a true high lift LT truck cam, proper valvetrain upgrades are mandatory:
- Dual .660? valve springs required
- GPI 0° Phaser Limiter required
- No head milling without verifying piston-to-valve clearance
- Flycutting may be required depending on head setup and timing
The L83 platform has tighter piston design than the LT1 and L86, making PTV checking critical before installation.
High Lift Cam Advantage - NA & Centrifugal Blower Friendly
Although originally designed for naturally aspirated applications, centrifugal superchargers maintain a similar power curve - allowing the L83HL3 to perform extremely well in boosted builds. If you're NA today but planning boost later, this cam is an excellent long-term choice.
