The GPI L83HL2 is the Stage 2 high lift camshaft engineered for enthusiasts who want more power in the midrange and upper RPM band while still retaining excellent street manners. Designed specifically for the L83 / L84 5.3L Direct Injected GM truck platform, this cam delivers harder acceleration, stronger top-end pull, and a more aggressive overall driving experience than the STG1.
Just like all cams in the GPI High Lift series, the L83HL2 features a refined, quiet lobe design, excellent valvetrain stability, and compatibility with both naturally aspirated and centrifugal supercharged builds. It is the ideal choice for street/strip truck owners who want more output without losing drivability.
Required Valvetrain & Install Notes
As a true high lift LT camshaft, the L83HL2 requires specific components to operate safely and reliably:
- Dual .660? valve springs required
- GPI 0° Phaser Limiter required
- No milling without checking piston-to-valve clearance (PTV)
- Flycutting may be required depending on setup
L83 engines have tighter piston design than LT1/L86, so PTV checks are essential before installation.
Excellent for NA & Centrifugal Blower Builds
The High Lift L83 cam lineup was designed around naturally aspirated performance, but thanks to the linear airflow characteristics of centrifugal superchargers, the L83HL2 is also extremely blower-friendly. If you are NA now but planning a blower later, this cam is a strong long-term choice.
