The cast rim's mechanical properties are changed during flow forming, resulting in strength and impact values similar to those of a forged rim. This means that compared to a standard cast wheel, a rotary forged flow-formed wheel can weigh up to 15% less. The resulting grain structure within the alloy of the wheel is linear, flowing in a single direction.
