Vortech High Output Complete System - V-3 Si w/Charge Cooler, Satin (1986-1993 Mustang 5.0) 4FA218-070L
High Output Satin V-3 Si Supercharger System with Charge Cooler for Fox Body Mustang 5.0
The Vortech Superchargers High Output Complete System (PN 4FA218-070L) is a bolt-on centrifugal supercharger package designed for the 1986-1993 Ford Mustang 5.0L. This version features a durable satin finish and pairs Vortech's V-3 Si compressor with an air-to-water charge cooler to help deliver cooler, denser air with minimal pressure loss on the Fox Body platform.
Vortech also offers entry-level systems that let you build over time as your budget allows, with upgrades that can be matched to your end goal - whether that's a clean street build or an all-out racer.
V-3 Si Compressor Efficiency
Vortech's Mustang system centers around the ultra-efficient V-3 compressor. Continued development in Vortech's test lab resulted in the Si model, which achieves a peak 78% adiabatic efficiency (SAE J1723 standard). Higher efficiency means less heat generation, reduced drive power, and more net power. Less heat also contributes to improved durability.
V-3 Systems: No Oil Lines Necessary
All V-3 series superchargers feature a self-contained lubrication system, which makes installation faster and easier because there is no connection required between the oil pan and gearcase. (V-1 and V-2 systems are engine-oil-fed and require oil lines.)
Air-to-Water Charge Cooling Advantage on Fox Body Mustangs
For 1986-1993 Fox Body Mustangs, Vortech uses an air-to-water charge cooler system to minimize pressure loss. Unlike air-to-air systems that send charge air through several bends and a long cooler core, the charge air path on this application does not travel any further than the non-cooled version - so there is virtually no boost loss.
Charge cooling means cooler, denser air for more power, improved detonation resistance, and support for higher boost options.
System Options & Platform Notes
- Available finishes: V-3 Si 7-9 PSI 5.0 Mustang systems are offered in black for an integrated look; satin and polished units are also available.
- Entry-level systems: 5-6 PSI V-3 SCi systems are available for budget-minded enthusiasts and can be upgraded later.

FAQs
- Does the V-3 Si require oil feed and drain lines?
No. V-3 systems are internally lubricated and do not require an oil pan/gearcase connection. - Why air-to-water on the Fox Body instead of air-to-air?
Vortech's air-to-water layout keeps the charge-air path short, which helps minimize pressure loss and can result in virtually no boost loss versus a non-cooled version.
